How to visit Cenotes Hacienda Kampepen

The Hacienda Kampepén cenotes are one of our favorites in Homún. Of the more than 20 cenotes that you can visit in Homún, in the Cenotes Hacienda Kempepen you can enjoy 3 beautiful ones.
Hello, we are Sandra and Isabella and we live in this beautiful area of Mexico and we love exploring the spectacular cenotes and in this post we’ll tellyou all about one of our favorites, Cenotes Hacienda Kampepen.
Cenotes Hacienda Kampepén offer a concept that we really like. Everyone has their own tastes, that’s why our job is to describe the places as best as possible so that you can choose. The old haciendas usually had a cenote from which to get water, usually with a “noria” (well).

In this old Kampepén Hacienda, that’s how it was, the cenote where the well is located is called, in fact, Noria. In addition to the Noria, they have two other cenotes that you can visit.
On this visit you can learn about the old haciendas while enjoying swimming in the cenotes.

Things to know about Cenote Hacienda Kampepen
Cenote Hacienda Kampepén offers tours to discover the remaining of the old haciendas and its 3 cenotes. You can also do the routes on foot or by bike along marked paths of less than 1.2 kilometers in total.
In addition to enjoying the cenotes, you can learn about the old haciendas in the facilities of the place. The tour itinerary include a visit to the church, the main house, including one of the cenotes, the one known as La Noria, which was the old water well of the Hacienda.
We believe that taking the full tour of the place is a great opportunity to learn about the local history besides visiting some of the best cenotes in the area. We truly love this place.
Another pleasant surprise is that they do night tours, something that gives us another perspective of the places. Together with the Pool Uinic and San Antonio cenotes, they expand the nighttime activity in Homún.

What are the cenotes?
A cenote is a freshwater sinkhole formed by the collapsing of limestone soil, the type of stone that the Yucatan Peninsula is mainly made of. The cenotes allow us access to the water table. These holes are produced naturally by the collapse of the roof.
Sacred to the Mayan civilization they are now some of the main tourist attractions in the Yucatan Peninsula. Read more about the Mexico cenotes.

How to visit Cenotes Hacienda Kampepen and respect the environment
We would like the cenote (and nature in general) to stay as beautiful as it is. The good part is that it’s not that difficult. We have put together some simple rules to follow in order to inflict as little damage as possible to the environment.
- Don’t be loud
- Don’t trash
- Don’t use any kinds of cream spray or protectors on your skin as it would contaminate the environment (even the so called – eco friendly)
- Always take a shower before entering in a cenote (available at the entrance)
- Don’t hang on to the stalactites or stalagmites or any roots
- Just don’t do any foolishness that can damage the environment
If we appreciate the environment we will learn to respect it.

What to bring to Cenotes Hacienda Kampepen
- Swimsuit
- Change of clothes
- Towel to dry off
- Mosquito repellent to wear after you come out of the water as there are many mosquitos around
- Mask and snorkel gear and life jacket are available for rent but it would be much better if you have your own, both for hygienic purposes and saving
- You can walk on your flip flop although I always like to wear closed shoes when I am in the wilderness, mainly to avoid bugs bites. But it’s totally up to you
